I have no choice but to rate Hawthorne: Chronicles of the Brass Hand – Mystirio Astronomiki (Volume 1) 5 out of 5 stars. I was very impressed with the authors choice to waste no time getting to the story. He dives right in with a brief introduction of his characters. The main character, one Edgar Hawthorne, a young man who ends up leaving his home aboard an airship to investigate some interesting things going on in South Africa.
An attacked forced Edgar to land his airship in an African Jungle. I was excited to find the airship stocked with a wide range of mysterious characters that left me unsure of who I could or could not trust. Once I started reading, I could not put the book down for the story is engaging and action packed. Wild Apes, Pirates from other airships, discovering ancient temples and secret societies left me wondering what was going to happen next.
I really like this story, it is very well written. The reader can tell that the author put a lot of thought into the creation of his characters and the action was non-stop. Steampunk references were well thought out as well. This book is a must for anyone who likes a good blend of scifi and fantasy.
I have added volumn 2 to my must read list.
